diesel, doppelbock, and dinner
by Donavan
At Deks last night we had a pretty good showing for our informal club night. I was in a dark mood and had the Sixpoint Diesel Stout and the Tröegs Tröegenator Doppelbock. Other popular choices were the Brother Thelonious and the Sixpoint Bengali Tiger.
Dean, one of the owners of Deks, speculated about coming changes to the tap lineup. The Bass tap will likely be disappearing to be replaced with some kind of wheat beer. Julius Echter (probably the Premium Weissbier, Würzburger Hofbrau makes five different wheat beers) or Tröegs Dreamweaver are candidates. Not sure what the time scale for this change will be since the Bass keg will have to kick first. So if you are Bass drinker, you can do us all a favor…
Also, I got the menu for the next Deks Beer Dinner. It will be Catfish New Orleans (fried and smothered), Corn and Banana Fritters, Blackened Medallions of Beef with Eggplant Mango Chutney, Crawfish Cakes with Pecan Butter, and Rice Pudding with Cranberries and Raisins. All these dishes will be paired with a choice craft or imported beer and served up on Wednesday, the 27th of February at 7 pm. The price will be $35 (not including gratuity). Reservations requested.
If you have any suggestions about what beers would go well with the above dishes, please leave a comment. I have some initial reactions which I’ll expand on later.
